The distribution of LaTeX 2.09 was last updated in 1993. A copy is kept for its possible historical interest: it is not recommended for current use—all current distributions provide LaTeX 2e (now known simply as ‘LaTeX’. Bug fixes, when they arise, are applied to current LaTeX, not to LaTeX 2.09.

A large number of packages were contributed for use with LaTeX 2.09, and while many have been discarded or converted for use with current LaTeX, a significant number await classification.
